Hope Springs Eternal
Playing With The Covid
Despite the conditions that still persist, that thankfully seem to be abating, the grand game resumes its annual spring song: 'Pitchers and Catchers'. The Grapefruit and Cactus leagues will be in full swing with the usual expectations of players, managers and owners. So coming off a season that saw the two best square off in the World Series that played 60 games, the 2021 season begins with the hope of getting all 162 games played and minimal postponements due to Covid. It will require constant testing and other safeguards. That's a given. However, there's the backdrop of bad blood between the owners and players that threaten the future of the game. This has been festering for some time and it's only get worse as the season winds down and the Collective Bargaining Agreement begins in the off-season. Don't hold your breath for a civil sit-down. This will make 1994 seem like a cake walk. And that episode nearly brought down the best game ever originated.
